The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old primary school student.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Mohammed, is also alleged to have arranged an abortion for the victim at a private hospital in Tamale.
According to the victim’s father, some associates of the suspect, including influential chiefs and opinion leaders, have reportedly attempted to convince the family to withdraw the case and opt for an out-of-court settlement.
The family, however, has rejected all such attempts.
The accused has since been arraigned before Tamale Magistrate Court 1 and remanded into custody until March 4, 2026.
