The Mortuary and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has ordered the closure of four mortuaries in Ghana’s Central Region over major regulatory violations.
The affected facilities are Gye Nyame Mortuary, Vision One Mortuary, Cape Coast Metro Hospital Mortuary, and Winneba Municipal Hospital Mortuary.
According to MoFFA Registrar Francis Ennin, inspections revealed serious lapses in operational standards, including unsanitary conditions, inadequate provision and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and disturbing reports of corpses being placed directly on the floor.

He explained that the shutdown forms part of the agency’s mandate to enforce compliance and protect public health and safety.
The facilities will remain closed until the identified breaches are addressed and they meet the required standards for safe and dignified mortuary services.
