Randy Abbey Loses Defamation Case Against Abronye

Randy Abbey Loses Defamation case against Abronye

The Accra High Court has dismissed a GH₵20 million defamation lawsuit filed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Mr. Randy Abbey, against Kwame Baffoe Abronye.

The court ruled that the case lacked merit and raised serious concerns about how it was pursued.

In its judgment, the court criticized Mr. Abbey for using COCOBOD’s resources and legal department to prosecute what it described as a purely personal defamation matter.

The judge held that a public institution and its funds should not be employed to settle private disputes, especially when such actions do not directly relate to the official functions of the organization.

The ruling emphasized the need for public officials to clearly separate their personal interests from their official responsibilities.

As a result, the court struck out the suit, effectively bringing the high-profile legal battle to an end and reinforcing principles of accountability and proper use of public resources.
