Ground Up Chale and its founder, Glen Boateng, have filed a libel suit against musician Kwesi Arthur at the High Court in Accra.

The case, filed on 27 January 2026, stems from social media posts in which Kwesi Arthur alleged that the record label wrongfully claimed ownership of his image and music, demanded $150,000 from him, blocked his music releases, and issued threats.

Ground Up Chale has described the claims as defamatory and is seeking damages exceeding GH¢10 million.

The label is also asking the court to compel the removal of the posts, restrain Kwesi Arthur from making further statements on the matter, and order a public apology.
Counsel for the label, Jonathan K. Amable, has rejected the allegations, stating that Kwesi Arthur was only prevented from using visuals owned by the company. He added that available records show the artiste received royalty payments. Ground Up Chale says it is ready to vigorously defend the lawsuit.
