Officials of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have intercepted a significant cache of illegal firearms and ammunition at the Tema Port.

The seizure involved 53 pistols and a large quantity of assorted ammunition, which were cleverly concealed inside a suitcase to evade detection.
The discovery was made during routine inspection and security checks at the port, highlighting the vigilance of customs officers in preventing the illegal importation of weapons into the country.
Following the interception, the seized firearms and ammunition were promptly handed over to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Police Service to support ongoing investigations.
Authorities are working to identify those responsible for the attempted smuggling, determine the origin and intended destination of the weapons, and establish whether the consignment is linked to any criminal networks or activities.
The interception underscores the commitment of security agencies to safeguarding national security and preventing the proliferation of illicit arms within Ghana.
