A Chinese-Malaysian criminal syndicate Group Reportedly defrauded victims in Ghana and U.K of approximately $15.1 million

A Chinese-Malaysian criminal syndicate is alleged to have operated a fraudulent online business scheme that deceived victims in Ghana and the United Kingdom into investing in products that did not exist.

According to investigators, the group reportedly defrauded victims of approximately $15.1 million, which was subsequently converted into cryptocurrency in an attempt to conceal the proceeds of the crime.

Through a coordinated investigation involving international law enforcement agencies, including Europol, and the use of advanced blockchain-tracking technology, Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) successfully traced the movement of the funds, identified the suspects, and froze the assets before they could be withdrawn or laundered.

The operation highlights the growing role of digital forensics and international cooperation in combating sophisticated cross-border financial crimes
