A Ghanaian man living in the UK recently traveled to South Africa as a tourist, hoping to enjoy all that the country has to offer.
- However, according to reports, his experience took a troubling turn when he was allegedly harassed, assaulted, and subjected to xenophobic abuse.
He was reportedly called a “kwerekwere,” a derogatory term often used against foreign Africans in South Africa, and was told to return to his country. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of African visitors and migrants in the country.
Such experiences are often linked to ongoing xenophobic sentiments among some groups who blame foreign nationals for unemployment and economic challenges.

These attitudes have, at times, resulted in the harassment and mistreatment of foreigners, particularly fellow Africans, creating fear and tension within affected communities.
