Family sends deceased’s body to bank as proof of death after repeated delays in insurance payout.

A grieving family, reportedly frustrated by delays in receiving a funeral insurance payout, brought the body of their deceased relative into a bank branch as what they described as physical “proof of death.”

According to a report obtained by GF ICON, the family collected the body from a mortuary and placed it, inside a black body bag, on the floor of the bank premises.

The relatives claimed they had already submitted all the required documentation but alleged that the bank requested additional verification before releasing the funds needed for burial arrangements.
The incident prompted the immediate evacuation and temporary closure of the branch.

Police later arrested two women at the scene on charges including intimidation, extortion, and causing a public disturbance.

Capitec Bank has since issued an apology, stating that it is working with authorities and the affected family to resolve the matter with “care, dignity, and respect.”
