About 130 Ghanaian health professionals departed the country on Monday, January 26, 2026, to begin a three-year professional assignment in Antigua under the government’s Labour Exchange Programme.

The group forms part of a broader initiative aimed at creating international employment opportunities for Ghanaian health workers while deepening bilateral cooperation in the health sector.

In addition, more than 120 Ghanaian nurses have so far been deployed to Antigua and Barbados through the government’s Health Workers Exchange Programme.

This three-year bilateral arrangement allows qualified nurses to work in partner countries to help address staffing gaps, share expertise, and promote knowledge transfer within healthcare systems.

The programme is designed to benefit both Ghana and the host countries. While partner nations gain skilled and experienced professionals, participating nurses receive international exposure, enhanced professional development, and improved working conditions.
The government has emphasized that the initiative will be carefully managed to ensure it does not negatively affect healthcare delivery at home, while strengthening Ghana’s global health partnerships.
